What Is Parent Support?

Parent support is a form of family therapy centered on you, the parent or caregiver. Together we build practical, everyday strategies for discipline, connection, and the moments that feel hard, so you can lead your home with more confidence and calm.

It’s also a warm, approachable way to get support. Parent support meets you where you are, at any point in your family’s journey, and it works hand in hand with family therapy as your needs change.

Areas We Commonly Work On in Parent Support

Every family is different. Some of the things we commonly work on together include:

  • Setting limits and boundaries in a way that still feels loving
  • Adjusting your parenting as your child grows, from baby to toddler to the school years and into the teen years
  • Parenting a child with ADHD
  • Managing parental stress, isolation, and life without nearby extended family
  • Supporting a child who has needed hospitalization or residential treatment
  • Understanding how your teen or young adult thinks, feels, and reacts
  • Supporting a young adult who is working toward independence

Structure and boundaries are healthy, and you have every right to set them.

Approaches & Tools We Use

We draw on established, evidence-informed parenting tools and tailor them to your child and your family.

Developmentally-Informed Coaching

Strategies matched to your child's age and stage, so expectations fit where they actually are.

Positive Discipline

A respectful, connection-first approach to boundaries that builds cooperation over time.

1-2-3 Magic

A simple, consistent structure for handling difficult behavior calmly and predictably.

Emotion Coaching

Responding to big feelings in ways that build your child's emotional skills.

Collaboration With Your Child's Therapist

When helpful, we coordinate with your child's own therapist to bring insight into what they're thinking and feeling.

What Parents Can Expect

Parent support sessions are collaborative. We’ll build a roadmap together, try strategies at home, and adjust based on how your child responds, finding the approach that fits your family.

Sessions run at our standard session length and rate (see session fees) and may involve one or both parents. We’re happy to walk through the details, including cost, when you book a free consultation. When it’s helpful, we can also coordinate with the other important people in your child’s life, like a school, a nanny or au pair, or other caregivers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is parent support the same as family therapy?
They're closely related. Parent support focuses on you as the parent or caregiver, and it often overlaps with family therapy and can flow into it as your family's needs shift.
Do both parents need to attend?
Either works. You're welcome to come on your own or together; sessions with both parents may run a little longer so everyone has room to be heard.
My child is the one struggling, so why would I go to therapy?
Your child's struggles aren't something you caused or could have simply prevented. But you have more day-to-day influence on your home's structure and emotional climate than anyone, so working on your own approach is often the biggest difference you can make for your child. Parent support gives you practical strategies to do exactly that.
How much does it cost?
Parent support is billed as a standard session. See our session fees page for full rates and billing details, and we're glad to talk through what it looks like for your family when you book a free consultation.
Can parent support be done virtually?
Yes. Parent support works well over secure video, so you can get support from wherever feels comfortable.
